Volbella is one of Allergan’s newest cosmetic fillers. It is a hyaluronic-acid-based filler equipped with Allergan’s vycross technology.
What does vycross mean exactly? Well, it refers to the string of hyaluronic acid molecules and their molecular weight. The vycross technology uses a mix of high- and low-weight hyaluronic acid molecules[45]. This might seem complicated, but basically the makeup of the products simply makes for a smoother, softer result. It provides a more natural look, which is important because no one wants to look overdone. Because of this technology, Volbella also lasts longer than other injections.
Volbella: A Hydrated, Youthful Look
Volbella is great for use in the lips and finer facial lines. It’s perfect to contour the lips by enhancing the lip border and to get rid of any fine vertical lines that can form around the mouth (water bottle lines/smoker lines)[46].
This product is also very soft and is thinner than traditional Juvederm, so it adds subtle volume. Patients shouldn’t expect major augmentation from Volbella, but rather a more natural and hydrated look.

Over time, our lips can appear crepey and wrinkled, but when using Volbella, the lips take on a more hydrated and plump look versus a ‘filled’ look, which does not always look natural. Because this product is softer and thinner, patients get less swelling than with other cosmetic fillers.
No More ‘Duck Lips’

Comfortable Treatment
Volbella is available in both a 1ml and .55ml syringe. This product also contains lidocaine, which makes for a very comfortable injection. Most facilities will apply a numbing cream on the lips and surrounding area for 15 to 30 minutes before injecting the filler to make the treatment even more comfortable.
Like with any cosmetic filler, there is always the chance patients might experience bruising and swelling, so be sure to plan accordingly.
