Juvederm Fillers: XC, Voluma, Volbella & Vollure
About Juvéderm XC
Juvederm XC is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler perfect for correcting issues with the lower face.
Concerns patients have about the lower face include the lines around the mouth, also known as parenthesis and officially named nasolabial folds; lack of fullness in the lips; lines around the lip border often called smokers’ lines; and lines from the lower corners of the mouth down toward the chin referred to as marionette lines.
Many people ask, “what’s the difference between Voluma and Juvederm?” The biggest differences are the molecular weight/thickness and the cross linking of the hyaluronic acid molecule[40]. What it really comes down to is where the products are going to be injected.
Juvederm XC is used to fill more surface lines so it is injected within the dermis, and it bonds to the water found in the skin giving a very natural, soft look and feeling[41].
About Juvéderm Voluma
Juvederm Voluma is a dermal filler suited for correcting concerns with the mid-face. Voluma is designed to create more volume in the cheek area that depletes as we age[42]. Voluma competes with other fillers like Sculptra and Radiesse that have historically been used for the cheek and midline face.
When comparing these dermal fillers, Voluma wins out in several ways. Results from Sculptra are gradual and patients will need several injections. Once injected it encourages the body to make new collagen to plump and give the face volume[43].
Voluma is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is injected into the cheek area to rebuild and restore volume loss that tends to deplete and succumb to gravity as we get older[44]. Many people begin to lose volume in their thirties, but what people tend to notice more are the lines that begin to form from their nose to their mouth.
By plumping and restoring the cheek area, it lifts the lower face upward, softening those lines around the mouth and creating cheeks again. Voluma typically lasts for about 2 years.
About Juvéderm Volbella
Juvederm Volbella is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler that’s used to enhance lip fullness and soften the appearance of “smoker’s lines” above and around the mouth[44]. Volbella is among the few injectables that’s highly effective in smoothing the fine lines above the lips, as well as fine lines on the cheeks.
Juvederm Volbella is formulated with Vycross technology, which blends different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to deliver natural-looking results that last for about one year[45].
What makes Volbella a popular choice compared to other dermal fillers is that it’s a soft, malleable product that effectively planes superficial lines around the mouth without adding too much volume or projection of the lip[46].
About Juvéderm Vollure
Another member of the Allergan family of fillers is Juvederm Vollure.
Vollure can be used for both fine lines and deep folds. This product is softer than Juvederm Ultra Plus making it a good choice for those areas of high movement.
Vollure can be used to treat parenthesis lines (lines around the nose and mouth), marionette lines (lines from the corner of the mouth to the chin), and volume loss to the lips and cheeks.
Juvederm Vollure works particularly well in treating cheek hollows. Results generally last up to 18 months.

Juvederm XC can last 6-12 months. The length of duration will depend on how quickly the body metabolizes the product.
Both Juvederm XC and Voluma are cosmetic facial fillers. Voluma is designed to restore volume loss in the mid-line face (cheeks). It doesn’t bond with the water in the skin allowing it to lift and contour the area. Juvederm is designed for the lower face to smooth and fill lines. It does bond with water for a plumping effect.
There is always a risk of bruising with any injectable. Should patients bruise, they typically resolve in three to five days and are typically easily covered up with make-up.
No. Juvederm Voluma contains lidocaine to make injections comfortable. Additionally, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the skin before treatment for additional comfort.
Juvederm Voluma can last 24 months or more.
No. This product is thicker than other hyaluronic acid fillers and the vycross technology keeps the product together. It will not spread into areas other than where it is injected.4
It may help to build collagen simply because it is being administered with a needle and the puncture made by the needle will stimulate collagen production, but the product itself does not cause the formation of new collagen.
